Humbled by Simplicity

I’ve spent a lot of time in the past month talking with people about our need for leadership in promoting an employment first vision in Minnesota and introducing wide-spread practices to increase job placement, customized employment, and competitive wages for youth and adults with disabilities in our community's workforce.
And so it goes, I was entering the YMCA in downtown Minneapolis earlier this week for an evening run when my eye caught notice of a handwritten note on a bulletin board greeting people in the Y's entry way.
It was a quote that said simply and eloquently:
"The world would sleep if things were run by those who say–"It can’t be done."
-Philander Johnson
Now there is a nourishing and encouraging message for proponents of organizational practice and systems policy change! Sometimes we make it so hard and complex when simplicity and a more direct approach will do. On this particular night, Philander Johnson's words were more energizing than my run.
